How time-window billing works
Hold placed
Before the call starts, a hold is placed on the guest's card for the first time window.
Call begins
The timer starts. Both parties see the elapsed time and current billing window.
Next window hold
60 seconds before the window ends, a hold for the next window is attempted automatically.
Capture & payout
At window end, the exact amount is captured. Partial windows are billed per minute (rounded up).
Example: 23-minute call at $5/min with 10-min windows
| Window | Duration | Charge |
|---|---|---|
| Window 1 | 10 min (full) | $50.00 |
| Window 2 | 10 min (full) | $50.00 |
| Window 3 | 3 min (partial) | $15.00 |
| Total guest charge | $115.00 | |
| Platform fee (7%) | -$8.05 | |
| Host receives | $106.95 | |
Stripe processing fees apply separately per standard Stripe Connect rates.
Frequently asked questions
How does per-minute billing work?
When a guest starts a call, a hold is placed on their card for the first time window (set by the host, e.g. 10 minutes). At the end of the window, the exact amount is captured. If the call continues, a new hold is placed for the next window. Partial windows are charged per minute, rounded up.
What is a time window?
A time window is the billing interval set by the host (e.g. 5 or 10 minutes). Before each window starts, a hold is placed on the guest's card. This ensures hosts always get paid and guests are never overcharged. The hold for the next window is attempted 60 seconds before the current window ends.
What payment methods are supported?
All payments are processed through Stripe. Guests can pay with any major credit or debit card. Hosts receive payouts directly to their bank account via Stripe Connect.
When do hosts get paid?
Payments are captured at the end of each time window during the call. Stripe typically transfers funds to your connected bank account within 2-7 business days, depending on your country.
Are there any monthly fees or subscriptions?
No. Vidivo has zero monthly fees, zero setup costs, and zero contracts. We only charge the 7% platform fee on completed calls. If you do not take calls, you pay nothing.
What happens if a guest's card is declined mid-call?
If the hold for the next time window fails (e.g. insufficient funds), both parties are notified and the call ends gracefully at the current window boundary. You still get paid for all completed windows.
Can I change my per-minute rate?
Yes, you can update your per-minute rate at any time from your dashboard. The new rate applies to all future calls. Active calls continue at the rate agreed upon at the start.
Is there a minimum or maximum rate?
You can set any per-minute rate you like. There is no minimum or maximum. Whether you charge $0.50/min for casual advice or $50/min for specialized consulting, it is entirely up to you.
